Presiden Amerika Serikat, Barack Obama mengunjungi masjid di Baltimore, Maryland Amerika Serikat. Di depan umat Muslim Amerika, Obama berpidato lebih dari 40 menit. Obama menyatakan bahwa Islam merupakan bagian dari sejarah dan kehidupan Amerika. Obama juga memuji Muslim Amerika yang turut berjasa dan berkontribusi bagi negara dalam berbagai bidang.
Beberapa senator juga turut mengikuti pidato Obama seperti Senator Muslim pertama Ketih Ellison yang mewakili Minnesota. Lalu hadir pula Andre Carson, senator Muslim kedua yang mewakili Indiana. Keduanya berasal dari Partai Demokrat, partai yang sama dengan Obama.
Presiden pertama Amerika yang berkulit hitam itu menerangkan bahwa Islam adalah agama yang damai. Islam berasal dari kata Salam yang berarti damai. Bahkan Obama mengucapkan Assalamualaykum semoga kedamaian menyertaimu.
